Our practice support team is a key part of care.
There are a lot of moving parts in a health care practice and they help keep things running smoothly. They are here to help when questions arise about insurance or billing, or to help to facilitate communication between client and provider. Our practice support team plays many different roles, all with the goal of ensuring that providers are supported, and clients are getting their needs met.
I have always found a lot of joy in supporting others to be their best selves. My background is in professional organizing (my first love!) and practice management. When I transitioned to doing practice support for mental health clinicians with my prior business, I saw that my role was much more than just entering data in the computer. I was an important point of contact for both existing clients as well as for the many, many people in the community seeking services. I saw that I could be a patient advocate by taking time to listen, and by doing what I could to try to connect the person to a provider or resources. It has felt very meaningful to me to be able to contribute to my community in this way, and meaningful to be able to help create a culture of care and support within Calico. I feel honored to be a part of our clients’ journeys and strive always to bring warmth and approachability to this role.
I come to Calico after a long career in the banking industry. In making the transition to medical billing I’ve been able to use my attention to detail in an industry where I feel like I’m able to contribute to making lives better. Insurance is really complicated these days, and I feel good knowing that I’m able to help make sure that our clients are getting the benefits that they are entitled to and that providers can spend their time focusing on clients rather than chasing down claims! Even though my role as Billing Support Specialist is often a less visible one, it makes me happy to know that my work helps clients to get the care they need.
I grew up in the Midwest and made the move to Portland in the summer of 2018. My professional background is in case management, where I truly enjoyed meeting new clients and supporting them in their individuals needs and desires. Transitioning to Calico has allowed me to see a new side of the mental health field and has confirmed my hope to continue in the field. I enjoy assisting clients in navigating the numerous systems within mental healthcare and am grateful for the opportunity to learn from my coworkers and out providers! Outside of work I spend much of my time reading, walking my dog Ginny, and going to bakeries and coffee shops around Portland with friends and family.
